Paul measures a church gathering by what happens to the outsider who walks in. When the church speaks plainly, God reveals the heart, and the visitor ends up on his face in worship rather than impressed with the insiders.

In 1 Corinthians 14:1–5, prophecy is not mainly a prediction of the future. It is intelligible, Spirit-given speech aimed at people, measured by whether it builds the church up.
