Canonical context: reading each passage within the whole Bible: A Step-by-Step Guide

Jesus tells his hearers that the Scriptures they search are genuinely about him, and that searching is not the same as coming to him for life. Reading the whole Bible toward Christ is a call to meet the person the text announces, not a technique for mastery.
