John opens his Gospel by telling you who Jesus is before he tells you anything he did. For a beginner, that order matters: the Bible is first a book about a person.

John 1:1–14 presents the Word who was with God and was God before creation, through whom all things were made, and who then became flesh and lived among us. The passage shows that the Creator entered human history as the one and only Son, full of grace and truth.
