Psalm 34:17–20 does not promise a life free of affliction. It promises that God hears the cry of the righteous, stays near to the brokenhearted, and keeps those who take refuge in him.

Paul ties Scripture's profit to a purpose: equipping God's people for every good work. That purpose answers the sufficiency question without making Scripture the only tool a counselor may pick up.
