Three men answer a king's command to bow with a settled refusal. They name God's power to save and then refuse to make rescue the condition of their obedience.

These three men believe God can deliver them and say so out loud, yet they leave the outcome in his hands. Their loyalty to God does not depend on whether he spares them.

Jesus does not tell his disciples that following him will remove trouble. He tells them trouble is certain and then points them to himself as the place where peace is found.
