Jeremiah 2:11–13: Broken Cisterns and Idols

Jeremiah 2:11–13 charges God's people with a double betrayal: forsaking the spring of living water and carving out broken cisterns of their own. An idol is any trust we build for ourselves in place of God, and its defining mark is that it cannot hold what we ask of it.
