Paul does not hand the Galatians a checklist for self-improvement. He names what the flesh produces, warns that settled practice excludes from the Kingdom, and points to a life led by the Spirit.

Paul lists nine qualities as a single fruit, a character the Spirit grows in those who belong to Christ. It is evidence of life in the Spirit, not a ladder to climb.
